April 23, 2006

After spending four days in Comox (visiting in-laws) and four action-packed days in Whistler, Sukh and I are happy to be back home.

Since the weather in Whistler was accomodating, Sukh and I tried some outdoor activities before the conclusion of the 2006 ski season. Namely, we went snowmobiling, snowshoeing, skylining and snowboarding. We also experienced the sights and sounds of the 11th annual Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival.

Last year, we tried the Ziptrek Eco-tour, which is pale in comparsion to the new Skyline Eco-tour experience. Instead of gliding on single ziplines between two points, individuals can now ‘race’ each other using dual ziplines suspended 300 feet in the air. Three steeper and longer ziplines opening in the next few weeks will allow one to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h. Unfortunately, only three of the six cables were available for use during the winter season. However, our guides were kind enough to allow us to use the two longest ziplines a couple of times :D Additionally, they offered us an 50% discount next year when all six lines would be available :)

Snowmobiling was an awesome experience. With ATVing, you know exactly where you’re going to end up, as long as you don’t abuse the throttle. On the other hand, with snowmobiling, you don’t know how well you’re going to take an upcoming turn — the uncertainity factor adds a bit more ‘fun’ to the experience.

Well, that’s all for now. Time to catch up on some sleep :) I’m aching all over from snowboarding.
