I think I’ve overpowered my turbo slug
I ordered another one after deciding it would be neat to have another turbo slug serving up music.
The load averages on the slug have been hovering at approximately 1.00 after approximately 24 hours:
# cat /proc/loadavg
1.00 1.00 0.83 1/50 569
That’s a bit on the high side (used to 0.00) for me, but then again it’s expected with all the services I’m running on the NSLU2. According to my research, a load average of 1.00 is considered ‘normal’ on the slug.
I also tested hard drive performance while I was shelled in:
# hdparm -Tt /dev/sda1
/dev/sda1:
Timing cached reads: 184 MB in 2.02 seconds = 91.09 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 28 MB in 3.09 seconds = 9.06 MB/sec
Not bad for a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 in an external USB 2.0 enclosure, running on a 266 MHz NSLU2
I think it peaked out at 210 MB/s during cached reads on the Sempron 2400+ box.
The NSLU2 is an amazing little device. Opening up the firmware opens up a whole new world of possibilities
